Alright, I edit business video seminars for work. We had a iMac die, and we had to go buy new one, and transfer the hard drive. All the apps went over fine. However, I have a project I want to open in FCP with a lot of bank gothic font… only to find that there is no bank gothic font available. It was available on the old computer, but not the new one. They are both FCP 5.1.4. Help?

A simple 2 second google search for your font, and I was able to find it.

Please take no offense to this, but why didn’t you do a simple internet search before positing this question.

I’m not really sure what you mean. Of course I did a google search. I know what the font looks like. And I’m not looking to buy something I already had on my old computer. I don’t know why it is missing from Final Cut on the data transfer. I’m looking for WHY this may have happened. And I couldn’t seem to find it on google, so I went here. Mind sharing what you found, isn’t that what this is for?

Can’t you drag your fonts over from your old mac?

Nah, the logic board is fried on the old one, so it is inaccessible. That’s the reason we got a new one.

FCS doesn’t install that font. It must have been installed manually or by another application. If you need it – and your old Mac hard drive is available, go to user>library>fonts or system folder>library>fonts and copy it to your new Mac. If it’s a Post Script font, you’ll need to copy several files, but they should all be listed together.

Take the drive out and stick it in an enclosure. Or you can try turning on your old mac and hold t while it starts up. You said that everything else copied over, so how’d you do that?

[Tim Heintzelman] “I’m not really sure what you mean”

I mean you asked for a font called “Bank Gothic” and I was able to find it in a 2 second google search.

You may have to if you didn’t keep a backup. It had to be installed by someone because it is not a default system font.

[Tim Heintzelman] “Mind sharing what you found”

Dude all I did was do a search for “Bank Gothic Font” and found a nice list of places that had it. I did nothing special.

That worked, I didn’t realize that it was installed manually, thanks
