Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy ball of death

  • Posted by Mark Richford on September 12, 2007 at 5:49 pm

Had a faulty kona LHe which i just replaced. Now, when I open an existing HD project, and play from the sequence or move the playhead around on the sequence, Final Cut is slow to respond and eventually ends up giving me the rainbow ball of death, forcing a Force Quit. Any ideas?

Sounds like you might want to uninstall and then reinstall the Kona drivers.

reinstalled the drivers (numerous times) just reinstalled FCP (i think, it went awfully fast) and updated to the current version used in the project 5.1.4. Is there an UNINSTALL process that I need to use? Strangely enough, when I drag the project to the “back up” system drive and open from there, I successfully scrub and play and get along well with the Kona card.???????????

Could be a conflict somewhere on your system either with the Kona or your media drives.

conflict–what does that mean? any suggestions on an action to take? I have a feeling that when I reinstalled FCP somthing stuck around. Maybe I should reinstall the whole studio or something. Flabergasting!

Run the AJA Conflict Catcher to see if anything comes up there.

There could be a driver or something else in your system that’s causing a system conflict with either FCP, the Kona or your media array.

yeah, the Conflict Checker has not turned anything up even when the card was dead. I wonder what could be disrupting the path from one app and not another. “back up vs main”
One diff is that back up is running 10.4.8 and main is running 10.4.9
Tech at Promax assures me that’s not an issue, but it’s got me wondering…is there a proccedure to follow for reinstalling FCP other than a simple overwrite?? Thanks for your time & consideration Walter
