Can some one clarify to me how to bake AO into a material so I dont have to render it every frame…I have seen a tutorial about doing this with GI and it brought up a little AO but I am not wanting to do it a Multi render.

I have a still camera and a still clock and the hand moves. I have tried a few settings with baking the AO but I really dont know what setting does what and I kept destroying my textures.

I have post the file that I am working on here

(I know it is not the most econimical model but since this the entire scene I am not worried about it.)

    Thanks,
    Randy

-turn off the global AO in the render settings
-apply AO object by object in the Diffusion channel of each objects material
-floor, watch body, face and date (face and date need to have evaluate transparency turned on)
-don’t put it on the hands or transparent bits
-lower the face and date AO samples and accuracy (I did 64 and 70%) and it renders in 1/3 the time.
…of course if you’re baking keep the samples up if you want
-select an object to bake and Render/Bake Texture (probably you need to join hoop, hoop ontop and body to get one bake since they use the same texture)
-replace the AO in the Diffusion channel with the generated bake image.
    for the face either:
-turn off the hands and bake or
-bake a series of images so the AO follows the hands as they animate

And a critique – with AO the face looks old and used but the body looks new

That is perfect, Thank you .
I am still playing with the body texture…I wasnt sure if I would catch on to the baking thing in time so if this failed I didnt have to make any changes.

    Thanks again.
