I have tried “round tripping” a 30 sec sequence from finalcut 5 to motion2. It is still images in a 10 bit timeline. After one attempt sending to motion with embedding the content failing, I choose not to embed and sent it again which worked. Then did a run throw on the images and tried to alt tab into FCP the motion file did not show up. so fine I decide to render out to a mov file. sure enough that works fine. so I go back to motion and make major changes to the motion project and re-render it. reconnect the file, to my surprise no change showed in the rendered file. none! Ok fine so I clear the ram re-render, the changes do not show up in the now re-re-rendered file however they are in the motion program. Baffling. Any help would be welcome.

What happened to the day when I could say I buy apple cause it works. now I buy apple for what they promise and struggle to figure what is wrong. oye.

I’ve personally found the integration back and forth to be too unreliable for my tastes. Instead I recommend export to QuickTime from FCP and Motion and importing at the opposite end. It works and you spend just a little more time with rendering.

There is a relinking problem even within FCP where render files will not consistently relink. I think that sounds like what you are running into. I just saw an Avid Xpress HD Studio demo and I like the way OMF handles metadata. Quicktime is showing its age, and its limitations compared to how Avid tracks clips and clip data. I think Apple could stand to step back and take a look at the shortcomings that affect our workflows and put a big fix in there!

May be a bit late for this response, but just got back from a long needed vaction.

This happens with me as well….however, i just highlight the clip in FCP and hit +1 (actually moving it 1 frame, then -1) It seems to relink and take the changes, and render if necessary.
