Baffling capturing issue
Ok I’m working in FCP 6.0 with a AJA IO box. Capturing from a Beta via component using a Keyspan for deck control. Using all default settings for 8-bit to OfflineRT. The tapes have timecode breaks between shots. I left it on create new clips on a Tc break in the option. I logged the tape as one large clip and captured it. It seems like it’s capturing normally. It pauses and queues up on the TC breaks and continues without a problem.
The odd part is when it reaches the end of the tape it says “Capture canceled by user”. Then it generates a bunch of offline clips with logging information that makes no sense. The ending TC on all of then are a good 35 minutes past where the clips actually ended which is well beyond even the end of the tape. If i go into the capture directory and manually drag all the clips in they look correct but now I’m not sure if I can trsut their timecodes.
Any ideas whats going wrong here?

If you’ve updated anything recently such the Pro Apps update, or the QT compatibility update, you may want to try unistalling and then reinstalling your Kona drivers. I’ve found that anytime I update these days my Kona drivers wind up getting corrupted. Give it a shot and report back…

We use a variation of this workflow all the time.
TYpically, the LAST clip is bogus! If you look at the filename extension (on the finder level) you’ll often see .a-v
instead of .mov. That’s a clue that this is a bogus, corrupt clip. We just delete ’em and move on.It sounds like you’re using “time of day” timecode which will create this kind of situation. We don’t even bother logging an in and an out, we just “capture now”. If you set it to “create new clip” FCP will handle it just fine… with the exception of that last clip.

Umm… Why? There’s an RS-422 port directly on the Io. What happens if you swich your control cable to the Io? You need to change the deck control in FCP’s AV settings, as well.

I was having a seemingly unsolvable problem getting the RS 422 port on the IO to work correctly. We concluded with AJA support it’s probably a hardware failure. I had a keyspan handy so it was preferable to swapping the entire unit. The settings in FCP are all adjusted for the keyspan and it works without a hitch. This is the first time I’ve encountered any problem with using it.
