Here is my problem.. and i hope that you guys can help..

I need to create a reveal effect as though i am viewing something through misty / dirty glass that is being wiped! and i have no idea where to start! LOL Any pointers or tips??

I would use fractal noise to create the misty feel and look. I would also use as a displacement for underlying elements. I would then use a feathered mask to take it off…..

Paint strokes could work as a matte layer, or shoot some high contrast element that looks like the type of wipe you want and use that as a matte.

Hey, you might try Scribble to “Reveal Original Image”, it’s fast and very tweakable, meaning you can change the wipe pattern easily.

    Duplicate you layer.

On the Bottom Layer (to make Misty):
    Scatter: Amount 120 (to taste)
Uncheck the “Randomize Every Frame” box
    Fast Blur: 12 (to taste)
Adjusting the above changes the “Misty-ness” of the Glass.

    On the Top Layer
With the pen Tool draw a mask in the arc of what you want to wipe clear. You can close the mask, but an open mask (arc) is better (not cut-offs).
    Effect>Render>Scribble
    Scribble:
The default setting give you a small tight white scribble, tweak these settings to get the reveal you want:
Mask: Choose mask1, if it’s not already there
    Stroke Width: 25
    Twirl down “Stroke Options”
    Spacing: 30
Curvness: Gives you nice gaps in your wipe, to taste.
Now tweak all the other parameter under Stroke options to get the wipe you want. It’s white now, but this will be the Reveal, coming soon.

    Wiggle Type: Change to Static
    Composite: Reveal Original Image

End: Animate this from 0% to 100% for your wipe.
    Adjust all parameters to taste.

Note: You can even have it “Re-Fog Up” by animating the Scribble>Opacity from 100% to 0%.

    I love to scribble.

Stunning effect Yikesmikes! Thank you very very much! It is almost exactly what i was looking for. I adjusted just a couple of things.. I set the Scribble > edge Options > Start / End apply to Mask path to make the reveal follow the path, and an now going to create a “rag” in photoshop to move with a copy of the same mask!

That will give me a “window Cleaning” effect. And the tip with the fog up was a great idea as well.. I have set the image to fog up, and then clear it away after a few seconds. I hope that the client likes it!

As soon as I get the go-ahead and release, I will post up a copy of the rendered animation, as well as the AEP so that someone else can have a try if they need to ! Hey.. if I get time over Xmas, i may even create a Tutorial 🙂

Once again Thanks to all that replied.. And have a great Xmas, and look forward to being able to help you guys maybe in 2007!

    Greetings Form Malta..
