So I am trying to import an EDL into FCP and I keep getting an error message that says “badly formatted EDL”. I’ve never seen this before. So I gave the EDL to our Flame guy and he had no problem opening it up on the Flame and it recognized it as a CMX3600 EDL. I can’t seem to open it up in Excel either, but it will open in Text Edit and looks good to me. I had the Flame guy resave the EDL out of the flame, and now it lets me import the EDL into FCP, but once I import it there does not seem to be anything in the sequence. I am at a loss; please explain to me what might be happening.

    Thanks,
    Eli Mavros

Some systems use TAB between the columns, some use three spaces.
Be very cautious when changing an EDL in a text generator, always keep the original someplace safe.
