  • BAD text Problems in FCP6… HELP!!!!

    I am in a G5, 2.5GHz, 800GB Array, using the all new FCP6.
    I am having font problems.
    They look crappy on my screen, they look very crappy on my NTSC Sony 15″ monitor.
    I am using a dedicated set of fonts for my FCP work.
    All TTF (TrueType).
    Not sure what is going on
    I used to have clean, pristine, sharp fonts in every display with my older version of FCP.
    Now, they are fuzzy, blurry… bad.
    I have removed Suitcase all together.
    I am using FontBook to manage the fonts.
    I created an .mv4 clip for a test, but it

    I’m going to guess that you repositioned the text element in the Canvas and didn’t park the text on an EVEN number.

    Check your position setting and if you see that either number is an Odd integer or has a decimal value. If it does just change that value to whatever the closest even number is.

    Example:

    Incorrectly positioned element:

    X = 3.3 Y = 271.3

    Change it to:

    X = 4 Y = 272

    I can’t remember if it is interlacing or pixels that are creating the problem but you will notice the same “blurriness” on still images as well. It’s really hard to see it on moving video but I have even noticed it there on detailed shots.

    This workaround works for pre-FCS2 so hopefully it still works!

    Good Luck
    Bob

    As Robert says if you are repositioning interlaced graphics you must be careful. If you shift them up or down an odd number of pixels, you are setting the even lines of your graphic on top of the odd lines of your time-line and the odd lines of your graphics on top of the even and you can end-up with something looking really bad. If you shift the position to the left or the right (y) there is not such a problem.
    Anyway if you are editing in a DV time-line is difficult to get good graphics or text. Apply a bit of blur to your graphics. 0.5 vertical blur can make it look much better.
