Bad playback in Resolve 11 on MacPro 3,1

Sorry if my posts constituted a hijack. The symptoms you are experiencing are identical to what I’m seeing on similar hardware.
I’m beginning to think Resolve 11 isn’t leveraging my GPU properly. It finds it during launch, but it’s not on the list of selectable cards in settings. Does your card show up there or is it missing as well? FWIW, I’ve verified CUDA and openCL work on my machine, but am beginning to suspect a driver version mis-match that Resolve doesn’t like – page 9 of the Mac Configuration guide alludes to this.

These forums always tend to drift off the original topic, sorry I am just way frustrated with this.
Resolve shows my GTX760 as the GPU, and I have the latest CUDA that will install into ML 10.8.5
I am not in front of it right now but I will look for the list of cards in Resolve. I will do some more tests later today. I hope it’s not because I have a 3,1 Mac.
I have also tried BM 10.1.1 and 10.1.4 drivers.Thanks

Yes, but because this machine is only for conform all it needs to do is playback decent.
I tried leaving the old ATI card in but the machine wouldn’t boot. Which slot would you use for the GTX760?
I have it in the lowest #1 slot right now. -

the reason this forum drifts often away from the topic is that almost 90% of the questions in here are misplaced.
They should be in the “Basics and configurations’ forum as this one has been dedicated to grading talk.
But all we do (since its too cheap , or even free ) is to talk about peoples attempts of running a perfectly performing software on a potato.
The guys at BMD did am amazing job to make this software sooo accessible , the only thing they ask with their config guide is that people follow this guide and use proper hardware.
And by that I do not mean 3 Titans in a Cubix or a 2000 mbs flash array.
But it can not , in any way, be as centered around ProRes as FCP X is.
In fact, most media files , like MPGs and stuff are not meant for editing or grading work, they are a playback product.So as much as we understand your frustration with your hardware, you have to acknowledge its 7 years old now and not all new software will perform equally.

8 bit solved it.
Thanks Juan,I had it on 10 bit. It doesn’t just make playback better it fixes it entirely, like the on off switch for smooth playback. Since this old machine is just for conform this will do for now.
I can always make sure I’m on 10 bit if I render out a flat file for someone. -
8/10bit is just for monitoring. Renders are still 32bit float. Your issue is just old Mac Pro with slow bus.
