Bad makeup with Mocha??

What format is your footage?
What format is your final output?

I could possibly help if I can handle your format(s) and there aren’t too many frames to retouch (as is often the case with effect shots).

Normally, you would output the shot as a TIFF sequence (a series of TIFF files) from AfterEffects and work on the frames in Photoshop.

If you need somebody else to do it, you would need to post the TIFF files on the web (http or ftp) so I can download them. Then I would ship them back to your public ftp directory or I can upload it to my own website and you would download from there.

After that, you would import the TIFFs back in AfterEffects (as a sequence) and edit the sequence into your project.

My footage is r3d from the red and I’m editing in fcx.

My footage in the clip with the makeup is roughly 10 seconds.

I tried to upload the frames to photoshop myself, but when i linked the frames together the makeup was dancing all over unevenly.

A professional told me mocha can fix it, but I’m completely ignorant.

Could dropbox work as a way to exchange the clip, or do I need to go the TIFF route?

I’m sorry, but I don’t know MOCHA too well (know it exists for AE, but that’s about it).

The TIFF export route would create 240 to 300 separate TIFF image files (about1.5 MB each) for a 10 seconds shot. That’s a lot of frames to retouch… Maybe the effects shot you need could be shorter?

If you own AfterEffects and Photoshop, rendering out your shot as a TIFF sequence would allow you to retouch the images individually in photoshop, then you could import them back as a TIFF sequence in AE and export them to FCX as a movie file. Then again, maybe FCX also allows TIFF sequence export and import, so you wouldn’t need AE at all.

Hmm.

The clip is a retreating jib shot, from torso and trucking back, until it reaches a cross fade with the next clip.

I do need all of it.

The only thing I’m wondering is if it’s possible to make the touchups look identical enough that there are no odd effects in color when played at full speed without using some sort of blending between the frames.

mocha has been used successfully on face tracking and digital makeup on many feature films. For example tracking bruises on to rugby player in the film Invictus.

Yeah. I was playing around with Mocha today and thought things were going quite well using this tutorial:

Around the 5 minute mark I realized that I didn’t have the needed “Remove” function since I don’t have Mocha Pro.

Here is the clip in question. You can see there are some obvious shadow and makeup issues here. Any more ideas?

If anyone here knows they can absolutely fix it, I would be happy to compensate. I just don’t have any connections around here. This is my senior film and I’m trying to make it as god as possible!
