  • Bad issue with filters plug-ins, playback just goes crazy

    Hello,

this is my first post on this community. Hope anyone can help me.

I recently had a very bad issue using Premiere. I’m working back-to-back on two different projects, one on Premiere 2017 and one on Premiere 2018, both installed on the same PC (Windows 7), utilizing some third party plug-in filters on both version (something I’ve being doing for years). I’ve been doing this for months without any kind of problem. Recently, after saving my last session on Premiere 2017 (without any problem or visible issues) I opened my project on Premiere 2018 (worked perfectly since the day before) and something strange started to happen on the couple of filters plug-ins always used without any problem since years. The problem is that all the clip where those filters are applied started to malfunction in terms of playback: upside-down frames, wrong color (magenta, yellow, green), black frames, layout of masks inverted, frames displayed on different part of the time-line, duplicated frame side-by-side. All this randomly. A complete mess. In terms of timeline and editing all is intact but when I activate the filters the playback just goes crazy (and so the render), while the day before (better say the morning of the very same day) all was functioning flawless and in the meanwhile I haven’t install or modified nothing on my PC (nor made any update to Windows). Last but not least, as I tried to re-open the project I just saved and closed on Premiere 2017 minutes before, also here the filters started to work weird. I understand something happened while I closed the PP2017 project and opened the PP2018 one (all in less than 20 minutes), but really can’t say what. In the next days I’ve tried all: cleaning the cache files, cleaning the rendered files, resetting Premiere preferences and plug-ins (on both version), disabling CUDA Acceleration and all that stuff. But with absolutely no avail. I’ve tried also to uninstall the filters plug-ins and re-install them but still no success. Finally I’ve uninstalled both version of Premiere and re-installed them but reopening the same projects (or another from scratch) the problem arise again.

It seems those filters plug-ins has become unusable on that PC. In fact I’ve tried to open the same projects (by the same hard-disks) with the same Premiere versions, same plug-in filters (with same installers) on another Pc and all seems to work fine, so I’m wandering if this could be a sudden problem concerning my PC or my CUDA graphic card, even if all other video software seems to work with no problem. Can this be a kind of virus?

Any idea or advice? Please help.

    Thanks a lot in advance.

Your plug-ins may / probably have preference files. You could try searching for those and deleting them. Sounds like something could have been left over after you uninstalled.

You could also try the trick of importing your project into a clean new project, and/or creating a new Sequence, and copy-paste your problem sequence into the new, clean one.

    Thanks a lot Jim.

I had already clean plug-ins preferences but with no avail. Same for importing in the new project. The issue staied.

Anyway apparently the problem was fixed after a pass with a malaware removal program. But can’t say if it actually really was due to the anti-malaware. Maybe somthing that attacked ONLY those filters… Really strange…

    Thanks again.

Last week, I had a 14.9 project that I could not re-open. Pr would go into Not Responding during the Open process. I had to start a new project and import the old one in to resume work. I did that eight or ten times.
I tried the usual troubleshoot routines to no avail. What finally fixed it was that I ran the Delete Unused command.

I was also having trouble with Proxies not playing via Transmit. So, deleted all the proxy media completely off my RAID and disconnected the link relationship in Pr, but the original files were still showing up on my Sequence as proxy media. More an annoyance than a job stopper. Just another incidence of one step forward, and two steps back for Adobe Premiere.

Anyway, I haven’t allowed any bugs in Pr to keep me from delivering a project on time, yet. Being able to downgrade to a prior version can be a life saver.

Good to hear you’re back in business.
