Have the HVX200 and 2 regular Panasonic batteries. Putting one battery on the charger a couple days ago, the red light came on (indicating power), but the green light, which is normally steady once the battery is attached, started to flash about once every second. I tried re-seating the battery, but the light continued to flash. I went away to do something and came back 10 minutes later and saw the light had turned to solid green, indicating it was charging properly, so I left it alone. Several hours later I happened to notice only the green light went out, indicating the battery was fully charged.

I then used the battery yesterday, and it died after only 15 minutes. Normally I can go for 2-3 hours with these. Fortunately my other battery was fine and the shoot went without any glitches.

Interestingly, when I put the first battery in the camera, the little indicator didn’t show that the battery had a full charge – looked like 80% or so, but certainly not 10%, which is about all the juice I got.

Is this a bad battery? Is there another explanation?

    Thanks!

    -Scott

Thanks Richard. You’re the only one who weighed in, so I won’t waste my time trying to charge it again. Samy’s Camera tomorrow for two new ones.

    Best,

I’ve never heard of resetting the battery. Possibly charging it overnight and then depleting it completely a couple times. I don’t know.

I purchased two new ones today. Not happy at all that the Panasonic one lasted just over a year – so I bought a couple by Lenmar that have a 3-yr. warranty and were only $99 each (vs. $175 or so for the Panny’s). They were highly recommended by Samy’s, otherwise I wouldn’t have taken the risk.

I just bought two of these for $79 each, based on user comments on the DVXUser forum. Worth researching.

Good to know for future reference. The Lenmar’s are 5400 mAh, so I’m not too far off from that. Knowing DVXUser sponsored this other battery gives me confidence, even though I don’t know who the manufacturer is.
