Backwards Compatible Logging Data?
Our Edit System: G5 Dual 2.5 w/4GB RAM, OS 10.4.2, AJA Kona2 w/1.1.2 Driver, ADTX RAID, FCP5.0.2
A recent problem capturing 23.98 HDCAM clips to 23.98 DVCProHD resulted in bad audio sync; the issue is with the Kona2. All we came away with successfully from those capture sessions was the logging data, because most of the clips were 1-4 frames off sync.
AJA says they are working on this problem and eventually we can capture to DVCProHD in FCP5 in Tiger, but they cannot say when a fix will come. Their current solution is to dump out FCP5, install FCP4.5, recapture all the clips, then upgrade the project to FCP5 to proceed with editing. They tested this and it worked– but they initiated their test in FCP4.5, then upgraded to FCP5.
We have a long and relentless schedule ahead for editing our indie movies, so we need to try this FCP4.5 solution. Problem is, we have more than 50 reels of clip logging data in the FCP5 project, and that project will not open in FCP4.5 (we tried it on a separate system). We cannot afford an extended rental of an HDCAM deck for experimentation, so we need to know– is there a way to ENSURE we can bring our bins of offline clips from our FCP5 project into an FCP4.5 project?
