  • Backing up Final Cut Pro Document to External hard drive

I’m working on a video project. When I began the project, I didn’t have access to an external firewire hard drive, so I set the scratch disk as the boot drive.

Now I have access to an external firewire hard drive, and I’d like to back up my movie. I’m still editing it, and I don’t know the best way to go about backing up my files to the external hard drive.

Should I set a new scratch disk now that I’m halfway through the project? What’s the most secure way to keep a copy of the movie on both hard drives?

Well, first off, you should never use your boot drive to capture media – ur just asking for trouble.

Drag the capture scratch folder to the fw drive. Delete the files off the boot drive. Reset scratch.
    Re-link media in project.

Get another FW drive and back up movie files to it by dragging over the capture scratch folder nightly.

    Thanks!

Is the capture scratch the only folder I need to drag over to the fw hard drive? That is, can I leave the render file folders and cache file folders on the boot drive?

Delete the renders off the boot drive.
    Reset scratch drive.
    re-render.
