Backing up Files Recorded to Macbook Pro
Hello,
I was thinking of recording interviews (40-45 minutes) directly to my Macbook Pro with an external drive until 16 Gig P2 cards become available. (Anyone who is doing this and thinks its unreliable, please let me know what your experiences have been.) My question is how are people backing up this workflow: recording MFX files to a mirror array, recording MFX files to a single drive and then converting files while on set to Quicktime with FCP and saving to a second drive? Recording MFX files to a mirror array gives me instant backup but complicates handling those files and for now gives me no way to view recorded footage on my MBP without converting to Quicktime (isn’t that correct?). Recording to a single drive simplifes workflow but has a much higher risk factor until the files are conterted to Quciktime and saved on a 2nd hard drive.
Any suggetions or advice?
Anyone using Grass Valley’s Rev drives that allow you to record DVCPro HD to disk in realtime? I’ve heard Iomega has had reliability problems, but an Iomega sales person told me Grass Valley has improved the units for realtime recording. Sounds good–$600 for the drive and about $60 for each 35 gig disk that can be reused.
Thanks,
Drew Harty.
