Backing Up FCP Files with iDrive cloud storage – the stored files are different!
I am using iDrive for off site backups, including FCP files – libraries, media files, etc. When I use the iDrive app to look at what has been uploaded to their cloud storage I do not see the familiar FCP Library icons – the purple square with four stars. Instead, it looks like the “container” of the Library (I don’t know the correct term) has been opened, and it’s contents stored in folders inside a singe folder that has the same name as the original Library. Some of those folders have the same names as the imported media files; some have names like “Original Media”, “Render Files”, “Shared Items”, and “Transcoded Media”. In the event that I need to use a backup, will I be able to recreate the Library from those files? Should I periodically make zip files out of each of my Libraries, and try to get iDrive to backup the zip files intact? Thank you in advance for your ideas and suggestions.

An fcpbunlde file, is essentially, a folder. What you are seeing is normal on a file system that doesn’t have fcpx installed (such as cloud storage, or any Mac that does not have FCPX installed).
I would, as best practice zip library files and have those backed up as you suggest. This will ensure you have everything you need. Sometimes, since the amount of change is so subtle, all of the latest little files do not get backed up to cloud storage in the bundle folder, which would result in an incomplete backup. A zip files will ensure you have the latest backup, at least at the time of zipping the file.
