Here is my delema. I need to remove the house from the back ground of this shot. The entire shot is 17secs long and is taking me forever to do frame by frame. The guy in the background has a whip he uses as well. Any suggestions

wellllll, this is kinda of an idea, you could duplicate the layer and then key out the house since it seems to be mostly white try and put in a sky or trees, but other than frame by frame, i dont think there is any other way with this kind of a shot. But i dont know much you’d have to wait for a better post. Just my 2 cents. (or maybe 3)

ummmm, put a big red blinking star in the lower left so maybe people wont notice the house? 🙂

Sorry, but I would think frame by frame is about the only way to go really. And I’m sure it is taking forever. I bet those trees are a nightmare.

This is the epitome of something that could have been done so much easier and quicker with a little more planning on the film crew’s part. Seems like a slight reframing would have eliminated the problem without changing the shot too much.

I was actually on set when the shot happened. I wish there was a green screen on set. Unfortunately their were more structures to either side. I eventually, and reluctantly, said I could take it out knowing I would have to do the frame by frame thing. Even a huge piece of Canvas would have helped in creating a luminance matte. Oh well – back to work.

IF this is a locked-down shot (camera on a tripod, no camera movement, no zoom) then maybe you could clone stamp some of the trees over the house in the first frame. Then make any adjustments needed over the length of the shot.

Will not be much fun however.

To steal a concept from “Thank You For Smoking”…just write in a line of dialog at the beginning that says that back in the Old West everyone lived in town houses with satellite dishes…and be done with it…problem solved.

    Have fun roto-ing.
