Wow, I’ve been searching and searching or an answer to this as well.
Let me know if you or if anyone can give some advice on this. I’ve spent hours on a model in octane and now can’t believe that this may not be feasible.

Yes, was able to find out , how to put background in both Redshift and Octane , especially if one wants to render both object and background in c4d itself , its helpful in motion/camera tracking.

will post the details once i get home and logon to my work system

    ok in Octane,
1.create a normal c4d background object, assign any img or video png’s [octane meterial]
    2. in c4d render settings , select octane render, select ‘overwrite kernel settings’ tab
    3. select direct lighting option , and enable alpha channel and disable keep environment.
    4. in octane live viewer , select settings option and enable alpha channel and disable keep environment.

    In Redshift,

just use Domelight and enable backplate option

I have to thank you this, taken days to figure out how to do this in Octane.
