Background is flickering when doing a 10 bit green screen
Ok, here’s a weird one.
I’m doing a series of spots, all shot for green screen. The lighting on the green backing isn’t the best(surprise surprise), but the key is working OK. I’m using DV-Matte for the key. The original footage was shot on Digibeta and brought into FCP thru an AJA Io at 10-bit uncompressed going onto a 10-bit timeline. So far, so good. When I set up each scene over the green screen, it looks fairly good before rendering considering the uneven lighting on the backing. When I render the effect out however, there is now a noticable “flickering” in the background. The levels on the background graphic are changing at a field rate, causing an annoying and very obvious problem. After futzing with it for a while, I found that if I turned off 10-bit yuv rendering and reverted back to 8-bit yuv rendering, the flicker dissappeared. I’d like to keep the quality on the final render as high as possible with 10-bit straight through the project, but it seems I’m forced to render at 8-bit to make it work. Any insights out there in the pasture?Running FCP 5.1.2 on a Quad G5, OS 10.4.8 and QT7. Using an Aja Io for output to Digibeta. Huge raid for storage.
Thanks,
Tom
