I’ve shot all of my background footage in DV. I’m going to a studio to shoot the “green screen” in HD. I have Vegas 7, can the two video formats be merged and used in the same time-line within the same project?

I could shoot the green screen in DV but the studio recommends that the chroma-key will work better if it is shot in HD.

Any advice would be appreciated, Thanks!

Yes, one of the many benefits to Vegas is that you can mix all kinds of footage on the timeline. This should work without issue as your output will be SD I assume. You will key in HD and then manipulate your keyed footage to fit against your SD background and then render to an SD format.

In a certain sense it also yields kind of a ‘depth of field’ effect too, since you will be sharper than the background.

Not really, I know, but every little bit helps.

    Jeremy-

Yes I will be rendering as SD. Thanks so much for your advice, I was hoping that the HD/SD merge would be possible in Vegas 7.

    Norman-

I never thought of that but you’re right, thanks for the post.
