  • Background Animations for One person Testimonials…

    Hi,

I have on-camera testimonials of five different people, all sitting in a chair in thier office, or in thier theatre, speaking for about 20 seconds each.

I noticed on NBC news in NYC, there are animated, swirling backgrounds in either the upper left, or upper right corners (never both right and left at the same time) while the news anchors reports.

I’m not sure if AE has anything like this thatI can use or is it easier to buy?), but I thought they looked pretty good and interesting.

On the other hand, I want the viewer not to be distracted, and to really listen to the speaker. Then I figured that if a major news organization does it without fear of losing the viewer, maybe it is a nice touch for my testimonials.

Any ideas or comments would be appreicated.

    Thanks.

The reason the major shows can do this, is that there are a LOT of graphics that show up in the shows and it’s less distracting for there to always be a background there waiting for a graphic to show up then to make it all appear and disappear. Also, their swirly thing is made to look beautiful with their set and lighting. It’s all built to work together.
You, on the other hand, do not have graphics coming in and out and you have your people in a wide variety of settings with different lighting and color for each one. That is going to make a random swirly background thing look really weird, odd, distracting, and out of place.

However, if you still want to do it; yes these can be done in AE. Depending on what version you have it may already come shipped with some lovely animation presets for creating backgrounds. If not you can always make use of the ever powerful Fractal Noise effect. Put it on a solid layer and just go crazy! Multiple layers of fractal noise animated, colored and over top of each other with different blending modes, mixed with other effects, and tweaked can get you a very professional look. However, it will require some work.

Or you can buy some. Digital Juice, Artbeats, and pretty much any other stock place will have lovely backgrounds you can use.

    Very interesting, and makes sense.

Got it, I don’t think I should use them on this project.

    Thanks.

Just go ahead and expriment and you’ll find the balance, an easy way to make a nice bgr is to play around with fractal noise with some colorama on it. 🙂

    Thanks Leo,

So, you mean make a solid, add fractal noise and apply colorama, I assume.

Ok, I’ll give it a try.

I have a subject with the hairlight hitting his head so hard on one side that he looks balding (and he’s really not), and I’m trying to find a way to “darken” that piece of his head. Don’t know if it’s possbile in AE, but am looking in Premier Pro.

    Thanks.
