I am needing some apple script(s) or unix command(s) to accomplish backing up my projects to an LTO tape drive. I’m sure you guys in the high-end post houses never have to deal with this sort of thing, you just press that red button that goes to your machine room and tell the IT guys and they handle it for you…. (been there)! Now i’m on my own and have to handle all this stuff myself and i’m wondering if anyone knows anyone who can write an apple script or can tell me of the unix command I can use in the terminal to do tape back-ups. Does anybody use this method?
Thanks in advance guys and gals!@

I’ve used Retrospect to back up to several generations of DAT tape drives over SCSI – not quite the size or rate of LTO3 tho. As OS X doesn’t necessarily have drivers for your tape drive or interface, you’ll need more than a simple script. As for *nix commands, see if anyone’s ported the Amanda tape backup server or at least client to Mac. I know commercial BRU runs on Mac and Arkeia handles it as a client at least. There’s a start…
