    Hey hou folks.

I know I might be posting to wrong forum, but couldn’t figure out better…

I started working as an editor in a new place. We have 2 edits, one for mainly fcp work and second more to motion graphics. They are in network and using 4 external hard drives in total. Well, I looked up the hard drives and seems to me that projects are only stored in these hard drives without any back-up. Scary! I mean the media and the working files are on one dedicated drive….

I made a scene to the producers about it and basically refused to take any new assignments until I have some sort of a back system. I suggested that we should get one of these raid systems where you have several HDs. That’s cool, but not reality for next two months.
Is there any temporary cost-effective system available?
I have all the project files now copied on to my computer’s hard drive… and I’ll be working the files from there so at least I have them if the external drive corrupts. It’s not perfect or near to professional, but that’s how it is.
Would you more experienced dudes have any insights to get around this? Much appreciated!

It’s like what Lenin said… you look for the person who will benefit, and, uh, uh…

Buy a bare 1Tb hard drive for $100, throw it into a very inexpensive firewire enclosure for $40, format Mac Extended. Plug it in via any firewire port and backup your media.

I agree. Buy inexpensive drives and backup to them. Other World Computing has an interesting appliance that looks like a toaster, allowing you to plug in bare Sata and Sata II drives. It comes in two models with different interface options.

I second the drive dock. Just remember to store the drives in anti static bags to protect them.
