I made a post the other day that never went up… i must have hit the preview and then closed my window.

Anyway… There was a discussion about multiple timelines. My question was the same thing.

I do long form with media 100, which is easy in some respects… vegas is faster in others.

Media 100 can keep everything in the same project (big folder)

With media 100, you just make a new “program” = Timeline.

    Save it.

    make another.

Make a master and then copy and paste programs into the master or any program. – all media is right there, all bins are available. I put my footage out into bins in media 100, especially for items that will be slo mo, and other specific footage i will need for different parts of the project (some the same footage)

ED was talking about Nested Projects.

Does Gary cover this in his training DVD’s for Vegas 5. if so what is the topic or disc

Where do I learn more about nesting projects.

And how do I share bins between projects more specifically!

I will be honest and tell you guys that Vegas does turn out to be really powerful, but how you guys learned this stuff from the what appears to be limited info they provide in help files… you must all be Psychic! – or have incredible patience!

[Wayne Grauel] “Where do I learn more about nesting projects.”

There’s really not much to “learn”. Simply drag a VEG file to the timeline and it works just like any other file. It simply becomes a single event on the timeline which you can then add other effects to, split as needed, etc… Anything you can do with any event, you can do with the nested VEG.

[Wayne Grauel] “And how do I share bins between projects more specifically!”

If you use the new media manager, that would be automatic. If you use the Project Media, you could always “Save As” to a new project or you can open Vegas twice and copy bins between the two open versions.

Nested veg files (projects) first appeared in Vegas 6. I cover them in-depth in The Vegas 6 Primer (new features) as well as The Vegas 6 Companion.

If you are still using Vegas 5, you can still build video projects as seperate veg files, then copy and paste between two instances of Vegas.
