Kudos Decklink for Multi-Bridge. I’ve set it up on Both PC and MACs, and think the Adobe Suite offers more than FCP, but Vista will never match the Unix shell that apple embraced. We use Win Xp and XP64 and an assortment of the fastest processors, and graphic cards on the planet. But, Vista… is toast. The latter paragraph is right from the MS Vista download site, and shows what MS users and developers are in for. Found it while looking for latest Vista updates.

    What choice might you choose?
(Supported Operating Systems: Longhorn (Windows Code Name) ; Windows Vista; Windows Vista Business; Windows Vista Business 64-bit edition; Windows Vista Business N; Windows Vista Enterprise; Windows Vista Enterprise 64-bit edition; Windows Vista Home Basic; Windows Vista Home Basic 64-bit edition; Windows Vista Home Basic N; Windows Vista Home Premium; Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit edition; Windows Vista Starter; Windows Vista Starter N; Windows Vista Ultimate; Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit edition)

If that ain’t enought to make a pig puke, I don’t know what would. Fortunately Multibridge, Quadro 4500’s Raids, etc we’ve bought are cross platform. I started my company with MACs. Its time to switch back, and wait. Or… Where’s my time machine?

If you post here, you’ve invested wisely despite some of the difficulties with drivers etc.

Don’t worry Gene, because of your loyalty to Apple, they will release 10.5 soon, and all the drivers for your Blackmagic, ATTO, Apple Fibre, and everything else, will stop working, along with all of your graphics plug in’s.

This is the never ending game of both Apple and Microsoft, to continue to generate income for their companies, while punishing all of us. So don’t be so damn happy.

Every new operating system has a big wave of changes….

Remember when mac has to pass the mountain of MACOS to OSX… I seen a lot of people who only use osx, when they realase the 10.1 or 2, not the 10.0.
And.. if you where still using an os9 application you had to start and os9 in your osx. 🙂 . nice…

It will be (i think) the same thing for vista.

A new Os need new ways to develop application and drivers.

For memory if you have a Apple Os X 1.3.x… you need to change your decklink drivers to operate on 10.4.x… For final it is the same thing (you know the good old solid rock “system recommandations”).

For my opinion Xp has reach his limit(xp32). It is still operationnal of course. But it is time to move to the future.(leave the 4GB limit memory, 2TB partition limit…, and using server version is not a good thing i think)

Also i don’t think by an vista the 30 january will be a good thing! better we wait middle of the year: adobe will realase his new pack compatible ,Black Magic will have drivers for our prefered devices…

    Best regards

    Oscar

    Oscar gives excellent advice.

Remember, when Apple released the PCI-express computers, not even Apple had their PCI Express Fibre channel card ready for their own Apple Xserve RAID.

If the very manufacturer of the computer is not ready – what chance do we have ?

    Hello,

We got tested Adobe After Effects and Adobe Encore DVD running on Windows Vista from a technician and encoding expert and he has not reported any problems yet,he managed to burn a DVD in Encore perfectly. He also said that it is vesy stable Vista.

I use both Mac’s and Pc’s, but my preferance lays with the Windows OS alomng with the Adobe Production Studio as so much flexibility with the Blackmagic Multibrisge Extreme and intergration with all the Adobe suite making things faster and easier.

I have been running Vista myself the business edition for general admin/internet use and so far rock solid. I am holding out deploying to my main edit suite un-till it has all be fully tested. Also Vista has the Abilty to run the 4gb of RAM with no problems and beyond now. So yes Vista is the way to go in terms of better performance.

    Thanks,

    Leo
