B-Raw Support in Next version of X/

July 22, 2019 at 3:33 pmDo you think there are even odds that the next version of X will support B-Raw? I thinking that there are a zillion BMPC4k’s out in the world and it would make sense for X to support B-Raw just based on sales of those cameras plus Apple and BM do seem to have a pretty good relationship… Thoughts?

What makes you think those users wouldn’t be cutting in Resolve and would skip FCPX entirely?

July 22, 2019 at 5:35 pmBMPC4K users could be cutting in Resolve and skipping X altogether, true. But perhaps it would be a good thing for X to incorporate B-Raw into their realm as they have Red raw. I’ve played a bit with Resolve since I’ve had the BMPC4K and while its nice, I’m still more of an X man, lacking resolve to learn Resolve.

It would be a good thing if X supported as many codecs as possible. Let’s start with DNx, which they deprecated :/ REDCODE RAW is supported once you install the RED installer. So it’s not Apple, but rather RED. BMD could do the same.

July 22, 2019 at 11:25 pmGiven the competing nature of BRAW and ProResRAW, I don’t expect Apple or BM to want to support each others codec. It would be nice for the user to have both companies just shake hands and each support the others codec so NLE choice is based entirely on the editors preference.
The history of Apple’s attitude makes me think such an obvious solution will not happen. Over time I also expect BM to be less likely to court Apple’s favour so don’t hold your breath.
