April 27, 2005 at 10:16 pmThat’s why I’m interested. And when compared to AVID it’s really very cheap.

April 28, 2005 at 12:20 amI have just placed my order for an Axio-HD system. I should have it by the end of May. The reason I have gone this way is because we do a lot of post-production for internal and external producers. I have used Matrox Digisuite in our three suites for about 7 years and I really like Matrox products for durability and support.
One of the advantages of the Axio system is that it uses PPro. I have two of the plug-ins from AutoMatic Duck, the pro-import and the new pro-export(I will receive this one next month). The importer brings in complete project files from Avid and FCP so we can “on-line” projects for just about everyone in our area and beyond. The exporter will allow us to export complete OMF files to our Pro-Tools audio facility.
We just completed a 24fps animation project which was off-lined in FCP and it worked flawlessly.
The cost is higher than products like decklink, etc but the real-time ability is very important to us. We decided to go with the HD system at this time even though we don’t need it quite yet, because of the price.
The SD system without storage is $C 17,000 and the HD sytem is $C 22,000 however we get $US 1,500 for the SD and $US 2,500 for trading in our Digisuite card. We don’t actually have to trade it in. We just give them the serial number and then we keep the card to use as a frame buffer for Combustion, etc.
This makes the difference between SD and HD not that much up front. At this time our other two suites will run PPro with SD-connect boxes for lower end projects. However, because they are running PPro we can easily on-line them at higher rez in the Axio suite.
Hope this helps.

April 28, 2005 at 9:08 amIve seen in work and tried to crash it, it stood up very well. It can mix various resolutions on the same timeline which is very useful. It can actually do more than the 844/x !!!
