Avoid clipping white space when saving?

Hey, I’m trying to save an .ai file in cs3, I have an image in the middle but want to keep the white space around it aswell as the original size of the artboard. Any ideas how I can do this without making a white box in the background the size of the artboard? The image is transparant in sections so I want to be able to save it as a PNG file as well.

Instead putting a WHITE box the size of the artboard behind your artwork, make a box with NO fill and NO stroke (TRANSPARENT). That should do the trick.

Thanks, It still clipped the white space, but I was able to do it by using a white fill with 0% opacity
