Im rendering a 12 sec scene and saving it as a .avi as it suggests (Im using windows) but when I play back the .avi, it plays fine for 2 seconds, then lags.. jumps to 8 seconds then pauses and ends…

    …it does it everytime.

Anyone have any idea why it’s doing this? I have a gig of ram on my laptop.. dont know if that has anything to do with it.

    Thanks for any help.

What is the comp size, what is the final file size, is there audio ? Do you have other processes, such as Anti-virus running in the background, what is your graphics hard etc, etc,

I would love to help, but this really is a hard question to answer without more specifics.

Also, in your question you say you render to AVI as it suggests…what or who suggests ???? I am on windows, but still always render out to Quicktime. I have had issues with AVI and my editor (inverted colors etc).

    Regards

A video’s data rate is related to its file size. If its too big, its data rate will be too high to play back smoothly. If your AVI was uncompressed, it will be too large (with too high a data rate) to play back smoothly on your laptop.

If you had to render to uncompressed AVI for DVD Authoring, that’s fine, but just don’t expect to play it back in uncompressed format. Play it back after you’ve encoded it to MPEG-2 for DVD. The uncompressed video is an intermediate video meant for passing between apps, not playback.

Nevertheless, if you answer Mr. Harvey’s questions, we can confirm this.
