I’m a little late in the game, but trying out AvidFX for the first time with a new install of MC Nitris DX Windows XP Pro.

I haven’t used BorisFX for over five years but was pleased to see the interface was basically the same.

Back when I was using BorisFX on Discreet, the way we built a custom transition was with Video A on track one, Video B on track two, and the BorisFX placeholder spanning where the two met. Within Boris, I’d leave the default V1 and V2 and build my effect. This doesn’t seem to be working as expected in Avid. My V1 and V2 are both showing V2. I can’t get V1 to show the video on track one of the Avid. Thoughts?

Also, we’re dealing with a pretty nasty memory issue with a number of shows with lots of Avid Pan & Zooms for stills. Is AvidFX any better for doing this kind of work with regards to memory usage? Having just taken a look at AvidFX in this capacity I have to say I’m pretty impressed so far but have yet to use it on a big timeline. Thoughts?

Check out the free tutorials on the Boris site: https://borisfx.com/tutorials/

Absolutely. Pan & Zoom is loading the entire still into RAM. Avid FX renders out when you go back to the timeline so the sequence is only pointing to a rendered media file.
