Hi, I’m trying to figure out the right workflow to bring files from avid into AE. I’m using 720p 24fps footage in an avid project and when I create the quicktime reference to bring into after effects i’m able to double click and preview the footage, however when I bring it into the timeline it doesn’t play and there is white over 3/4 of the screen. If I Ram preview it, it slowly renders and still nothing plays. I’m using Mac OSX 10.5.2. Quad Core 3.0Ghz 4gigs of ram, 8800GT 512mb. I would appreciate any help I can get on this issue, I have two big project due this week. Thanks.

Also…I’m using Avid Xpress Pro 5.8

Which CODEC are you using and do not use a reference QT but a proper QT export.

    What would you recommend?

Depends on what you’re doing and if you have storage constraints.

If you’re not doing keying and/or not intending to do major color correction, then keep the exported movie at the same CODEC settings as what you have on your Avid timeline. Same thing when you render out from AE.

For keying and color correction stuff, render out from the AVID uncompressed or with the Animation CODEC at 92% quality setting. When redering out from AE, use the settings that conform the movie to the settings of your AVID timeline/project.

ok i created the animation file and thats worked in after effects but now I have a different issue, i’m exporting as an animation..I’ve applied a few effects, one of them being a full color correction. I am in a standard DVCPRO HD 720 23.976 Comp however, when I render and export in render queue the file comes out distorted in a 4:3 format and it will not play well…it stutters and skips a lot…any suggestions?

WHy are you working in a DVCPro HD comp? Stick with a sandard 720 comp that is compatible with your AVID timeline/project.

I am assuming that the less than stellar playback framerate is due to the movie’s high datarate. If you import it into teh AVID, the AVID will regurgitate the movie to conform to your project settings -IOW, it will playback just fine on your timeline.

Again, I’m not certain why you are viewing things in 4:3 when you are working in HD which is 16:9. IF you stick to a 720comp, that is compatible to your AVID timeline, you will have no such issues. From your earlier post, you mentioned that the project is a 720P project – so work with that.

If you have to post again, then please provide more information related to teh avid project and the footage items you are working on. ALso include the settings that you are exporting from the avid.
