I am editing in An academic version of Avid Media composer for Mac. I keep my media on an external hard drive which I had partitioned into two drives. I decided yesterday to de-partition that drive, with out moving my media. once this action on the hard drive was complete, I re-opened avid, and the project opened but all the media was offline. I have tried relinking the media, nothing. I’ve tried re-mounting the database, nothing. I’ve deleted the first two avid media database files from the mxf files, and nothing. nothing seems to be working but I know exactly where the original files are. the link between avid and the source files seems to be lost. is there any way to reconnect this media? Thank you for any advice.

You have several choices…you can BATCH IMPORT the missing files, or, you can open the media tool and manually drag the missing mxf files back into the project bin.

Thanks for your advice Bill. I tried what you suggested, and still nothing comes back online, the newly imported clips even stay offline. whats weird is that I kept all of my footage for several different projects on that same hard drive, yet the only project that was effected was the most recent project I worked on.

Probably a stupid suggestion, but have you tried deleting the two msmXXXX files in the Avid MediaFiles directories?

Then rebooting the program it will remake those files and may get you back what you need.

I actually tried that at the advice of another user. it worked, in that it did rebuild the files, but it still wouldn’t reconnect the offline media. thanks tho.
