We have an AVID XPress Pro ver. 4.6 running on a HP XW4200 computer that has stopped working with our sony DSR 1500A decks. Both encoding and recording to tape we have ‘drop outs’ where the audio drops to nothing and the video goes to black for a second or two then comes back only to do it again.

We have changed out the fire wire cables and decks, tried bypassing the MOJO going straight to the deck from the computer. Even tried loading AVID software onto another computer that the engineer cobbled together. (The program would run but we still had the same problems). As well as re-loading the software into the original computer. Nothing has worked.

Well, until we used a VX2100 as a deck. It worked fine.

We are currently trying to upgrade our systems to Composer but need to solve this problem till the approval goes through and we get the new equipment installed.

Anyone have suggestions on what we can do to get the AVID and the DSR 1500A decks to play nice?

    Thanks,

    Doug

I find that my (very expensive) Avid Mojo DX system doesn’t like my JVC-BRHD50 deck in SD mode. It’s fine (90% fine) in HDV mode, but flip the switch and it totally vanishes.

My Final Cut Pro system (cheaper, and far less hassle) sees the deck just fine.

Had AVID tech support open a case, they can’t figure it out, had JVC check the deck, they say it’s fine, so yeah.. I feel your pain on this.

Just one more check in the “why to get away from AVID” column in my book.

Lol, that’s one reason why I bought FCP for myself.
