I’m trying to export a 7 minute video from Avid as an uncompressed AVI to compress in Procoder and then use Encore to build a DVD. I’m trying to maintain maximum quality. However, Avid keeps stopping the export at 1.95 GB. Any ideas about this problem or my procedure or tips on compression settings for for highest quality DVD? I’ll appreciate any advice out there.
    Thanks, Jim

First Avid is not AVI native. So it has a 2 GB file limit when it works with AVI [I/O].

Use Quicktime instead. No file size limit.

If your timeline is DV, there is not much advantage of going through the uncompress route. Export a QT Ref and be done with it.

You are running into the 2GB file size limit. Export as QuickTime reference which is just a pointer to the native media and resolution of the Avid project and encode from there.

Use QT Ref file as your export. Deselect the Avid Codec (it works for me). You will be amazed at the lack of render time compared to kicking out an AVI. And, since QT Ref files are basically small text files, they take up far less disc space.

Drop that into ProCoder and use the Mastering settings for the MPEG file export.

I then finish DVDs in Encore DVD 1.5.1

    They look nice.

    Good luck.
