    Hello All,

I just purchased Avid Express Pro 5.7.2 this week. I have installed it on my computer, when ever I open the program, I get this error message:

    —————————————————————
    Avid Express Pro
Exception: A serious error has occurred! It is recommended that you restart the application immediately.
    —————————————————————

The only option is ‘ok’, so I click that and the program continues opening. Once it’s open, I can create a new project and everything seems fine. So today I shot some video, then brought the camera to my computer, hooked it up via firewire, loaded video, and everything seemed fine. When I went to look at the video, it only showed me black, with some error message across the bottom of the window. As a test, I exported the video to a QT movie. I then went to the QT file and watched it. It played back fine (outside of Avid).

Also, when I click on the “video display settings” tab, I get an error message that says:

    —————————————————————
    Mircosoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
    Runtime Error!
    Program C:\Program Files\Avid\Avid Express Pro\AvidXpressPro.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application’s support team for more information.
    —————————————————————

So I click ‘ok’, which is also the only option I have, and the program crashes! So I dunno what to do…

I just upgraded my QT player, my graphics card drivers, and my .NET framework to version 2.0. The specs for my machine are:

Windows XP Pro, Version 2002, Service Pack 2
    AMD Athlon 64X2 Dual
2.20 Ghz, 2.00 GB of RAM
    Sapphire Radeon 9600SE Edition
Dual Monitor Set-up (both running off of same card)
External 500GB USB 2.0 Hard Drive

    Thanks,
    Nate

It’s probably your graphics card and/or your AMD processors. Neither are approved to work with Avid.

Seeing that you’re having issues with playback within Avid I’m almost certain it’s your graphics card. Replace it with an nVidia Quadro Card–FX1500 or FX3500–and install the nVidia driver that comes with your Avid install and it will likely clear everything up for you. The AMD processors may still cause some problems but not likely.

Otherwise, there’s a trick you may want to try. Hold O and L down when you start Avid. It will run in legacy overlay mode or something. You’ll lose some functionality (probably Full Screen Playback, maybe some other stuff that relies on OpenGL), but you may get the system to work otherwise. Maybe you’ll at least be able to play video back.

    Good luck!

    Michael.
