AVID rips us off again
Posted by Mike Herod on March 22, 2007 at 11:39 pmAVID is charging $995 to upgrade Software only MC 2.6.7 to 2.7. They say they are including free phone support…LOL I have never called AVID in 10yrs of editing.

March 23, 2007 at 7:14 amAvid is supposedly offering an upgrade for MC-soft 2.x users who neither have nor want Assurance, but that price has not been announced yet. I’m working on getting the info and spreading it, but I won’t have it until Friday at the soonest.
XPro 5.7 is only a $50 upgrade. For $50, you get MacIntel Support, 720p50 PAL HD support, scrolling timeline, and a few other improvements. If you have a Mac Pro, or need 720p50, it’s worth every penny. Otherwise, I think $50 is a tad high for a scrolling timeline…I don’t care how bad you want it. 🙂
Stay tuned, I’ll post the upgrade info as soon as I hear back from Avid.

March 23, 2007 at 10:58 pmJake let’s hope so! AVID has been getting alot of neagative press on this one. No way can a $5,000 program charge $1,000 for an upgrade that is marginal at best!
