Avid Quicktime Codecs
There has been a flurry of posts about the Avid Quicktime Codec lately.
Its available here:
https://www.avid.com/onlineSupport/browse.asp?productID=0&topicID=404&browse=The latest ones are dated September 27, 2006. They support all newer Avid resolutions, including DNxHD.
Some people (including ME!) have reported problems with FCP not being able to launch if the new Avid Codecs are installed.
After some experimentation, I was able to solve the problem…..The latest Avid codecs Version LE 1.20 installs 5 components into Library/Quicktime
Remove the following components:
AvidAVdvCodec.component
AvidAVpkCodec.componentFCP will now launch normally. At least it does for me.
AvidAVdvCodec.component is the Avid DV Codec, which probably conflicts with the Apple DVCodec, which FCP uses.
Not sure what AvidAVpkCodec.component is for, but everything seems to work fine without it.These codecs are useful for interchange between Avid systems and FCP. They are not intended for creating your own presets and trying to edit within FCP using the Avid codec. It won’t work reliably, if at all.
