January 29, 2015 at 9:28 amPeople have to be aware:
Pro Tools First is major disaster
– can only save projects to cloud
– can’t open/save normal pro tools sessions
– can’t import/export to normal PT
– can’t use normal plugins, only in-app purchase
-etc-etcThis is worse than Garageband compared to Logic.

January 29, 2015 at 12:23 pmYou have to understand the target market for Pro Tools | First. It’s for “first” time users. So they don’t care that they can’t use existing plug-ins or Pro Tools projects because they don’t have any. I’m not sure they will understand the cloud aspect so that may surprise them later. If they decide to upgrade to the full Pro Tools later and the plug-ins that they purchase don’t work, they will be very angry. So there is the potential for a lot of disappointed customers later on. We’ll have to see how this all works when it’s finally available.

January 29, 2015 at 4:21 pmIt’s quite possible that the “First” in the name not only refers to first time users but the first of major changes to the higher end versions of ProTools. Perhaps it’s their iMovie processor to their FCPX. Granted not so radical but it’s possible this how they’re looking at plugins and projects going into the future.
