We are considering the Avid HD\Adrenaline\Unity to FCP\Xsan move. Many of our current projects need an occassional re-edit. Our editors use multiple bins with multiple sequences regularly.

Is it correct that Automatic Duck can only import a single sequence Avid file? We need to understand the workflow implications for our legacy projects (in the 100s). Will we need to keep some kind of Avid around to translate legacy projects? We lease our Adrenalines and Unity but own one laptop based Xpress. This would be a wholesale change.

    Thank you,
    Ray

Quick reply: there’s no easy way around it.

I wouldn’t trust the Duck + FCP if you need to get into an old project for revisions. Go ahead and keep the Xpress software for when you need it. On top of not being able to move an entire project to FCP, AVID uses proprietary codecs that will either not work at all or be problematic with FCP.
