    Hi,

I’ve a couple of questions about the size of the project files. I’ve been working on a documentary for about two years, and the it has grown quite a bit, and lately we’ve been having error occur much more frequently than in the past. Nothing major, but it would be nice to remedy this.

Right now, our project file is about 50mbs, has been as high as 70, and is usually around 35 or so. I was wondering what would be considered normal and if this is something that would cause performance problems, and if so, at what point would this occur?

We are working on a feature-length documentary and are using an Apple G5 1.8mHz DualDrive with 2 mbs of RAM.

Any general tips about system upkeep for long-term projects? What are some things to keep an eye out for?

    Thanks for any advice,

    Tim

    2 mbs of ram??

Project size has little effect on anything so long as you have the hard drive space to hold it, the overhead on the system is the number of bins you have open and their contents, try and keep as few bins open as poss, try and avoid a bin with 93 versions of the cut open! Use a bin with the current version only, and keep otherr versions in a closed bin until it’s needed, fx templates and titles etc also have an overhead, check your bin sizez in the project window if you’re unsure which bins are pulling!

    Sorry, sorry, 2.25Gs of RAM.

Thanks, that was very helpful. I already had a seperate bin for the graphics and titles, and it didn’t occur to me to have one for the old sequences. I’m going to do that right now.
