We have Canon location footage shot at 1080p/29.97, created project based on those settings and have edited pieces. Tomorrow is a studio shoot for the same project. The cameras and the switcher will only let us do 720p or 1080i (they will not do 1080p). We will receive, all from 5 KiPros, 4 ISO Cams and a Switched PGM. What should we shoot and what would be the workflow? A second project and combine the two? Uprez the 720p or find a way to deinterlace the 1080i? Many thanks!

I would go 720p/29.97 if possible to match frame rate and still have a full progressive frame which will scale better quality wise with no motion artifacts.

If it’s 720p/59.94 or 1080i/59.94. then it’s more of a toss-up. You will have blended frames if you keep all 59.94, or you lose 1/2 motion resolution by de-interlacing or keeping every other progressive frame. So you choose between scaling on the horizontal with the 1080i, or a full progessive resize… eeehhhh…. it’s a close one.

I was in favor of the progressive even if 720. I can run cams in 720p/29.97 as they loop through KiPro’s before switcher. The switcher only outputs 59.94 in 720p mode so it can deal with converting the inputs to match the output … which will work fine because we can always recut the switched using ISO’s.

    Thanks!
