For over a year now I have been taking my Avid projects back and forth between PCs and my Mac, keeping them on NTFS formatted external drives, readable (and supposedly writeable) on my Mac via Paragon’s “NTFS for Mac.” For the most part this works great. I can open projects, work on my cuts, and save them just fine. I can even render (most) video effects on my Mac, straight to the NTFS drive.

However, this rendering doesn’t always work. For some reason, when the “AudioSuite” tool needs to do some rendering, I get the “creating” errors (i.e. – can’t write to the drive). This same error occurs when I try to capture footage (e.g. from a DV camcorder) through Avid onto the NTFS drive, or when I try to consolidate footage from one drive to another through Avid.

So basically Paragon makes my Mac NTFS “friendly,” but I would hardly say fully compatible. Has anyone out there found a way around this or a solution to it?

Thanks in advance for any and all help!

Using NFTS drives on Macs using Paragon may work, but it is far from recommended for things like capturing. I like having access to NTFS drives, but for anything serious, I still copy to an HFS+ drive.

Same goes the other way around, using MacDrive on the PC. Although I’ll admit to having used HFS+ formatted drives on PC’s with MacDrive even for capturing, successfully.
