Does anyone know how to use the Pan and Zoom effect on an image with an alpha channel so it will recognize the alpha channel? I have the feeling this is not possible with this effect. If not, do you know of any workarounds (in the Avid) or plugins that can do this? It would be nice to not have to involve after effects for something like this.

    Thanks,

    Craig

How about doing the pan and scan as normal, creating a matte from the alpha in photoshop, then apply the same pan and scan effect on a layer above but using the new matte, then alt add a matte effect to the layer to create the transparency…I’ve never tried it but it makes sense to me.

    3 layers
v3 matte with npan and scan and an ALt added matte effect
v2 hi rez with pan and scan effect
    V1 bkd

    ok, or after effects…

i don’t know if avids pan&zoom can handle alphas, but i know for sure that
the avx plug in ‘Moving Picture’ by Stagetools can.
Shouldn’t be to hard to find it on the net. It’s about 199$ per license (with a rotation option it’s about 268$).

Moving Picture doesn’t handle alphas–Moving Parts does, and they’re both by the same company, Stage Tools. They are definitely the way to go–I have both Moving Picture and Moving Parts and use them almost daily. High quality, fast renders, and very affordable.
Here’s the link to the company:

I get them wrong all the time when I’m using them (Moving Parts is above Moving Picture, and I use Moving Picture more often but always go straight for the top effect). Nothing like starting to put the moves on a picture only to realize you’re using the wrong effect!
