I am just starting to work with our new HVX-200 and I am completely new to Avid.
So far I have been able to mount a P2 card or copy the CONTENTS file to the root of a local drive and bring the footage into a Bin with the media tool. This all works fine, so long as everything is in the same contents folder in the root of the drive. My question is how can I organize my footage into folders that Avid can find? I was able to import some M2T files from their sub-folders, (shot on our old JVC and not captured in Avid), But I cannot figure out how to do it with the P2 data. Their must be a better way than putting hundreds of clips in one folder and then re-naming the folder to switch projects.

What you could think of using would be the ability to create Virtual P2 cards. This can be done using the Panasonic P2 Viewer software.

Essentailly what the software does is allow you to copy an image of a P2 card to a folder on your computer media drive. Thi image can be of any size and can therefore contain more than 1 P2 card. You can also create multiple Virtual P2 cards so this is how you organise your media.

Once you have created these drives you can directly mount them from your Avid as though they were actual P2 cards. The way to get the Avid to recognise them is to use the Windows SUBST command to map the folder to a virtual hard drive.

    Hope this helps,

    Brian
