You know what Mitch, you are right. I have to apologiz. I didn’t think about the fact that my G-Raids are two RAIDED drives inside a case. I just thought that this was a standard config, as the Lacie D2 is also two RAIDED drives. Huh. And there are FW800 single enclosures out there. Anyone have one to test?

Anyway…the G-Raid connected via FW400 gives me:

30.5MB Write
36.5MB Read

Again, compared to my EZQuest at:

25.3MB Write
31.4MB Read.

Darn interesting….

those are pretty accurate for what you should be getting- a single hard drive (non-sata) cannot write much faster than the numbers you quote above.

Now if you had 2-single FW 400 drives on 2 separate FW buses you should get that to about 60- 65 megs for writes.

If you want to keep your current hardware, and you want to use every format the HVX200 shoots, and you want the ultimate in P2 integration, download the demo copy of Canopus EDIUS Broadcast. It’s a PC application, and its P2 integration is unparalleled — way better than FCP and Avid’s. The editor itself isn’t quite as robust as FCP or Avid, but its P2 support is phenomenal, and if it does everything you need then you may find it an appealing alternative.

This has been the most entertaining thread I’ve ever read! A veritable soap opera of twists and turns, complete with amazing character development, plot lines and a resolution that warms the heart. Beats the crap out of American Idol…and I didn’t even have to vote!
Scott, I agree with Mitch: If you want to keep your current setup then EDIUS is a pretty kickass program… not that I’ve used it. But in talking with those who have, and seeing it firsthand, it’s pretty cool.
However, I certainly wouldn’t discourage you from switching to FCP. DV magazine, this site and others have plenty of articles on the HVX200 and the editing workflow, and they almost all include FCP. I agree, it can produce hickups, but name me a system under $10,000 that doesn’t. In any case, mucho mas RAM, a good capture device (I’d recommend AJA) and a robust RAID setup and whatever problems you have will be minimal.
