Yes.. Automatic Duck’s website says it only imports SEQUENCE – not the OMF files. I need a way for FCP to READ or import the actual VIDEO (OMF) files.

It DOES read the OMF File. The video files are a separate entity and yes, the Duck CAN refer you back to the original video files. Whether or not you can play them on your FCP system is another story.

I’ve conformed over 40 or 50 Avid OMF’s now to HD, but we recapture all media from the original source tapes and don’t even try to move the Avid media to our systems. I wouldn’t want to.

Thank you for your answers.. Seems the best solution then is to wait for Avid’s support for the Intel chips then… we are trying not to use the master tapes until absolutely needed… I guess the best solution then is to use Avid or similar and do an export as a .MOV… then automatic duck should re-link back to those files correct? if we’re along these lines anyway, would there be anything else you can think of?

    Thank you

In my mind, it’s much faster to re-digitize the tapes than spend the time exporting everything as a .mov, then rebuilding all the Avid timelines, then exporting the OMF so FCP can re-link the media.

We never bring Avid media into FCP partially because there are some conflicts anyway with the Avid codecs on some FCP machines and partially because it’s just easier to not deal with Avid media.
