    Hi all,

Are there any methods or software platforms for doing a complete replication of three Avid Nexis units (a 60TB, 40TB, and 20TB) to a jumbo NAS for continuity-of-business backup purposes? We’re not looking for a “zero downtime” solution, just a safety net for the data.

I’m aware StorageDNA has a platform, but we’ve ruled that out due to its steep annual price.

There’s one we’re considering through Marquis called Workspace Backup which has potential, though it’s not quite “set and forget” because whenever a new workspace is created on the Nexis, we’d need to specify that new workspace on Marquis’ software. We create and delete workspaces fairly weekly, so that’d mean frequent human intervention.

The other alternative is to just buy another Nexis and configure media mirroring, which seems overkill and expensive.

Right now we’re resorting to an old Mac tower mounting all 100+ Nexis workspaces and using Carbon Copy Cloner to clone them to respective directories on the NAS on a nightly schedule. Not exactly the most elegant solution.

We ideally want something that just backs up EVERYTHING on the Nexis on a regular nightly schedule, and requires as minimal user intervention as possible.

Surely someone has come up with a solution for this…?

    Hi Troy,

Archiware P5 Synchronize could do this. It’s a software product, can replicate files/folders from several boxes to a big NAS, either by being installed on the Avid boxes, or having that storage mounted on the NAS. Support snapshots or retention of previous versions of files. All pretty simple to setup and manage via web-admin interface. Also supports backup and archive of same to disk/tape/cloud.

P5 is designed for use in media environments.

Check out to hook up with local partner for demo etc.
