    Quick question for ya…

In order to do multi-cam editing in Avid MC, do you HAVE to digitize the footage into the system as 4:1m? Specifically in the M resolution? My guess yes you have to because the tests I’ve done thus far have brought me to that conclusion. I just would like someone to confirm that for me.

    Thoughts?

We’re still standard definition but I’ve brought it in as both 2:1 and DV50. In fact, I’ve even grouped together clips of different resolusions and it’s worked fine. The only problem I’ve had is mastering to tape in which I’ve had to mix down to the lower resolution to avoid underuns. Hope that helps.

Sweet, thanks. now I’ve run into a problem. I don’t know how. I had a successful run yesterday using low res footage. Using the same exact footage, only redigtized as hi rez, I can’t seem to get the quad display to work under Multicam mode to do a test edit. I’ve used the same steps as the previous successful test. Any thoughts on why it won’t work?

m-resolutions were a work-around designed specifically for Avid Meridien systems. On Adrenaline and newer, you’ll get better performance with 15:1s or 4:1s. (I’ve been cutting multi-cam on Avid since 1992.)
