  • Avid Media Composer on Macbook Pro?

Posted by Brad Weiss on February 27, 2007 at 3:12 am

    Hello,
My name is Brad and I have been hunting for the ideal editing system for my start up independent production company.

Recently i was toying with the idea of picking up Avid’s Media Composer, as i have experience with Xpress Pro and Protools and liked their work flow. Has anyone trying installing/running this on a Macbook Pro? Avid’s spec sheets only listed certified G4 Powerbooks, but nothing newer.

Any help would be IMMENSELY appreciate.

Thanks, but i’ve seen this info on the Avid site.

I wanted to know if Avid Media Composer had been tested with the new Intel based Macbook Pro notebooks?

    Has anyone tried this?

Avid MC 2.7 (Universal) is in beta testing and should be out soon. This will run on the Macbook Pro.

    Sincerely,
    Oliver

Thanks Oliver… that’s great news. Not to push my luck, but, have you heard of a release date yet?

Excellent… hopefully there will be a benchmark test to see how efficient MC performs. If anyone hears anything about in the near future PLEASE keep me posted.

    Thanks,
    Brad

    Hello,

Just a heads up that MBP’s are STILL not yet certified for use with any Avid software as Avid has yet to officially release a public beta for Universal Binary. However, I happen to have a friend who has connections at Avid, and he told me the beta for Universal Binary ended over a month ago and the final release should be expected for late march (if there are no additional problems between now and then of course).

This is all unofficial information, and I haven’t yet seen it to say it’s true, but this is all I have heard. I hope it is true as I am looking to get a MBP for this summer if I end up getting an internship during my college’s summer break.

Awesome, great inside news! I am looking to do the same thing this summer, while i’m working on a feature. I want to put together a strong, mobile editing package and want a solid platform to operate on. Let me know if hear anything new.

    Thanks.
