AVID Media Composer on G5 iMac?
Posted by Randy Davis on November 16, 2009 at 3:31 pmHi all,
I have a quick question. Is is possible to run Media Composer (or AVID xpress) on an iMac?
I have a G5 version of mac, haven’t gone up to the pentium world yet. Thanks!

It can be done, but the challenge is going to be to find the right version for your Mac.

November 22, 2009 at 11:46 amI’ve read the responses about the AVID Media Composer and Imac… but I just wanted to “sharpen” the question:
Will the NEW IMac, with the up-graded graphic and video cards run the current AVID Media Composer soft-ware? Also, how does the Mojo Nitris or DX work as an i/o interface ( I understand there is NO other i/o box that is compatable for AVID).
I ask because I am currently looking to purchase my own editing equipment and like the Imac set-up for my needs. I don’t want to make this large investment to find out I’m stuck.
Thanks for your replies,

Yes. Although with ATI cards, it won’t run as well as it can, as Avid wants NVIDIA.
[David Lewis] “Also, how does the Mojo Nitris or DX work as an i/o interface”
They won’t work for the iMac. They connect via PCIe ONLY. The iMac does not have this connection type. And because they both only connect via PCIe, they cannot be used with a laptop…not even the MOJO.
The iMac is a CONSUMER machine…not a professional one. VIDEO professional I mean.
If you need a DX box, then you only choice is a MacPro….or PC equivalent.
